As a Sunday school teacher you are like the person Jesus spoke of:
Whether you know it or not, you possess many treasures to "bring out" and
share with your students.
Priceless among these treasures are the truths you have learned from God's
Word. Unsurpassed in beauty, value and depth, no other treasure you might
possess will do more to satisfy spiritual hunger and life's needs. No other gem
in your storehouse can compare with the pure, fiery, multi-faceted diamonds of
scripture.
Glowing warmly among your treasures like rare rubies are those life
experiences, yours and others, that illustrate how the truth you're teaching
proved itself out in a practical life situation.
Glinting here and there, scattered throughout your vault room, are rare coins
that are the thoughts, insights and experiences of Godly men and women
throughout the ages. These coins of rare minting will help to instill the lesson
truth in the students hearts and inspire them to "taste and see that the
Lord is good"(Psa 34:8) for themselves.
How does your treasure grow? You add to your treasure through prayer, Bible
study, reading good books, listening to solid preaching and teaching, etc. You
can also increase your treasure through simply observing life around you or in
casual conversations. The lodes of ore from which your treasure is refined are
myriad.
The most effective way to increase your treasure, however, is to give it
away! Your vault is of limited capacity. If you hoard this treasure, it tends to
get rusty, become corrupted and even disappear. If you dispense it freely -
lavishly - you discover more and greater treasures are being mysteriously added
to your store.
Be a good householder. Bring out your treasures - old and new - and share
them with your students. Any one of the precious artifacts you dispense can
change a life, for now and for eternity.
"Therefore every scribe instructed unto the kingdom of
heaven is like unto a man that is an householder which bringeth forth out of
his treasure things new and old." (Matt 13:52,KJV)
